When Frank Yassenoff opened the Riverside on June 25, 1940, it was the first drive-in in Columbus. Tickets cost 30 cents each.
In its first months of operation, it changed sound configurations several times. Starting with giant speakers atop the screen, then speakers on posts for every two cars, and then speakers for every car. The Riverside was also the first in Columbus to install in-car heaters.
