Information for this tour was contributed by Konrad Schiecke. Of the two vaudeville/silent film theaters in early-1900s Oregon, only the Star was able to survive for more than a short time. The Star Theatre was built in 1905 by Harry Emerson at 110 North Fourth Street and had 190 seats. Several owners later, Russell Lamb owned the theatre in the early 1930s. Around 1940, the theatre expanded into the burned-out grocery store next door, effectively doubling its capacity to 400 seats, and the name was changed to the Oregon. The business was sold to the Kerasotes chain in 1965, who operated the theatre until its closing in 1981. The building was then purchased by Robert Newlon, who turned it into Bob's TV and Appliance. The floor remains sloped and the marquee is intact. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
