Information for this tour was contributed by Jeff Edling.

The Kearney Drive-In opened in 1950. A storm on Thursday, May 29th, 2008 caused significant damage to the screen tower which caused the drive-in to close for an undetermined amount of time. The storm included tornado touchdowns in the city.

It was finally announced on Friday, July 18th, 2008 that property owners Mark Benjamin and Mike Kalb of Kearney had decided not to renew their lease with the theater chain that was operating the drive-in, Cinema Entertainment of Minnesota. The main reason given for not renewing the lease was that the settlement offered by the insurance company was not nearly enough to cover the cost of replacing the damaged screen, which was no longer structurally sound and would have to be torn down and completely replaced. The drive-in was torn down shortly after the decision was made not to reopen.
