Information for this tour was contributed by Tim Reed. Built by M. Switow and Sons, Louisville. Closed by fire Oct 2, 1987. Reopened April 12, 1992. A second auditorium/screen was added in 1997. This other screen is actually the former State Theatre (later, the Downtown Cinema, which showed adult movies), just one door down from the Kentucky Theatre, on Main St. The two lobbies were joined and the auditorium restored to its 1945 glory, in an extensive remodeling job which converted the two theatres into one. From the street, the location of the State Theatre is no longer apparent. All access is from the huge Kentucky Theatre entrance. Both auditoriums feature Dolby Digital sound.
