Information for this tour was contributed by John Szalkowski.

Showplace 4 opened in the late spring of 1977. It was the first non-union movie theater to open in Amarillo, which caused a tremendous uproar. We had automated single-reel projection transports that didn't require reel change-overs (the Cinema Twin on Western was the only other one that had similar equipment, but using a platter system). The owners refused to pay union wages to a projectionist for basically doing "nothing". Select ushers at Showplace were trained to thread and start the projectors. The projectionists union picketed the theater for many months after the opening.
