The auditoriums of the Van Wert Cinemas were destroyed by a tornado on November 10, 2002. Great praise goes to theater manager Scott Shaffer and his staff, who was able to get all of the patrons out of the auditoriums and into the sturdier lobby and restrooms. Only one person was killed, a man who had not made it out of his car. The tornado also destroyed owners Jim and Joyce Boyd's home and their Ridgeway Drive-In Theatre, adjacent to the Van Wert Cinemas.
After two years of struggle, two of the five screens were reopened in 2004 with "The Incredibles" and "Polar Express". Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
