Southgate Cinema was built by General Cinema as a single screen theatre in 1963. Cinema II was built in the alleyway on the north side of the theatre in 1971. In the 1980s, the large original auditorium was divided in half. It was sold to an independent operator on October 28, 1993 and demolished in May 2005.
