Information for this tour was contributed by David Sparks. Ultra Saver Cinemas closed the fourplex after many nights of only 2 or 3 people watching the flicks on screen. The Salem Mall Cinema opened in 1966, later twinned, and then in the late 1970's fourplexed. Sony closed the cinemas in July 1996. Ultra reopened the cinema in January 1998. It closed for a day in 2000 for having mice troubles. The cinema also was home to a small riot in 1999. The mall holds some 100 plus stores but only 20 or so are open so the cinema will join the list of closings.
An article in the 4/18/1972 edition of the Dayton Daily News announced Mid States plans to add a second theatre to the Salem Mall Cinema.
An article in the 6/18/1996 Dayton Daily News stated Loews would cease operation after 6/27/1996.
Ultra Saver reopened the theatre on 3/13/1998. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
