Information for this tour was contributed by Jeff Stuckey. General Cinema operated this theatre from April 15, 1970 until August 2, 1987.
Located off of 11th and Garnett in Tulsa, the Village Cinemas I & II originally opened in [the late 60's] and was sold by Alex Blue to the General Cinema corporation in the early 1970s.
Some of my best childhood memories are of this theater. It was in the same neighborhood where I lived, and I rode my bike there very often. They had a regular show of The Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday and Saturday night. Of course, I was too young to go then. I saw films like Popeye, Excalibur, Alien and Aliens, Rocky IV, Back to the Future, The Secret of My Success, and many others.
The theater became a second-run dollar house in the late 80's, then finally shut down in the early 90's. It is now a corvette repair shop. I must admit that I really love the simple design of the old GCC twin houses. I wish there were more still around. But no more ...
It was a great theater, even if it was a twin ... and I miss it.
