Operated by Richard and Judy Komer since 1960, the Berkley had switched to second-run films by the late 1970s.
The Berkley's auditorium ran sideways behind a row of shops facing 12 Mile Road, with the entrance at the west end of the block. When Rite-Aid bought the building to convert it into a drugstore, the theater entrance was walled over but the marquee was preserved (it now offers community event information). One enters the Rite-Aid from the rear parking lot, at the northwest corner, where a vestibule contains a few artifacts from the old cinema: A set of doors, a couple rows of seats, and the old "velvet ropes" for traffic control. The shops facing 12 Mile are still intact and housing various small businesses.
