Information for this tour was contributed by Daniel Gibbs. The Grace Street Theatre opened in 1935 as the Lee Theatre. Its first movie was China Seas, with Clark Gable. It's also notable as the theatre in which Warren Beatty (a Richmond native) saw his first movie. (His sister, Shirley MacLaine, saw HER first at the Bellevue.) It became a porn theatre in the '70s, and was then known as the Lee Art Theatre (apparently, "art" means "naked" in some dictionaries) and closed about 1995. It sat empty for a couple of years, and was finally purchased by VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) and houses various university events.
