The Orpheum operated from 1922 until 1971. Around 1973, the city purchased the theater and renovated it into the Marion Cultural and Civic Center.

A fire destroyed the Civic Center in 1997. The facade was salvaged and a new building was constructed around it, with the original facade located inside the new lobby. The new, larger venue was completed in 2004.
