Information for this tour was contributed by Paul Holterman. The cinema depicted here is actually a complex with 4 cinemas. Calypso 1 and 2 and Bellevue Cinerama and Cinerama 2. As the marquee clearly shows, the Bellevue Cinerama used to have a Cinerama screen and, although the screen is still curved, it is no longer the original Cinerama screen.
The Pathé Group still officially runs the complex but it is booked by the Amsterdam Film Museum. There are plans for a new complex on this site, but until final decisions are being made by the owner of the complex, the Amsterdam City Council, the Filmmuseum will run classic movies and new releases.
The Bellevue Cinerama auditorium opened on December 9, 1965, seats 638 and was designed by J. Heineman, K.J. Roosendaal, and Carel L.W. Wirtz. Photos Photos remain the property of the Member and may not be reproduced without the written consent of the Member. |
